Slum Children's Lives Improve
Over 6,000 children a week attend a Kids Club in the slum area that they live in. There are approximately 90 Kids Clubs with anywhere from 50 to 200 kids in each club, with the kids divided into smaller groups by appropriate age groups.
These Kids Clubs provide a safe place for the kids to go - off the streets and under the care of loving adults. Here, they play games, do arts and crafts, sing songs, and learn about Scripture stories, values, and ethics. All the activities are designed to teach in fun and engaging ways. After only a short time, the parents notice improvements in their children's attitudes, behavior, and school performance. The kids are having so much fun, they don't even realize they are learning!
These Kids Clubs are not fancy but are typical for India - the kids sit on cloth placed on the ground. Many of the groups meet outdoors under the trees or in a level area. They do their coloring on paper while seated on the ground. but the kids are delighted and enjoy attending each week.
Even with keeping everything as basic as possible, there are still costs associated with the teaching materials, instructors, food, and supplies.
